What Will I Be Doing?
As the Irrigation Technician, you will maintain and repair the irrigation system, pipes and irrigation heads on a routine basis. Fill out irrigation requests, order parts and supplies for the department, as well as keeping the inventory areas clean and organized, including the irrigation vehicles. Operate the irrigation heads in dry areas, while keeping the irrigation satellites clean and insect free. Maintain repair records. Edge irrigation heads, valve box and drains. Monitor pump station for proper operation and adjust pumps as required. Perform other general landscape maintenance duties as directed by supervisor. May supervise a small labor force during special projects. Your availability should accommodate for Monday-Friday 6am-2pm and be able to work every third weekend 6am-10am (subject to change based on season and on going projects)
What Experience is Needed to Be Successful?
In order to be successful in this position you will need previous landscaping or golf course irrigation experience. Working knowledge of basic electricity and hydraulics related to an irrigation system, including automatic valves and controllers. Working knowledge of various types of pumping systems, pipes, irrigation head repairs and installations, valve repair, while being capable of keeping maintenance records and ordering parts. Understanding of agronomy, turf grass science, while being familiar with Electrical and/or Hydraulic irrigation systems, Variable Flow Drive Pump Stations, Toro Osmac Site Pro computer operation or equivalent. Have an understanding of golf course watering practices. You also will need to know how to operate irrigation heads from the two-way radio, as well as from the irrigation satellites. Ability to operate system to water in fertilizer or pesticide as required. Perform monthly pump station service requirements, including the reporting of current meter readings, effluent line, make-up wells to the golf course superintendent. Know how to properly install slip-on and dresser couplings, back fill holes, install sod with the proper plant material (to the course standards), read and understand As-Built and T-Map, and maintain/make small repairs to PVC pipe (up to 3"). Finally, you must have the ability to follow verbal and written communications in English and/or Spanish.
What are the Physical Requirements of the Job?
Ability to lift at least 50 pounds, bend and stoop. Work in varying Florida outdoor temperatures, including extreme heat and humidity. Exposure to poisonous and non-poisonous animals/insects and noise from equipment.
